Compassion in Motion.

Specialist mental health enabling that bridges the gap between clinical expertise and community independence..

Find Your Rhythm Again.

Expert mental health guidance for navigating life in South Devon. Where evidence-based nursing meets the power of green space.

I provide high-quality, person-centred support for young people & adults navigating mental health challenges. As a former Registered Mental Health Nurse with over 15 years of experience, I bring a deep understanding of complex needs, risk awareness, and recovery-focused practice to a non-clinical, community-based role.

My focus is on Social Inclusion and Enabling—helping individuals move beyond their front door to build confidence, manage anxiety, and reconnect with their community. Whether it’s navigating a busy supermarket, attending a local group in Newton Abbot, or managing daily structure at home, I provide a calm, professional, and consistent presence.

The Meaning of Karuna

Compassion as a Verb

In the Pali and Sanskrit traditions, Karuna is often translated as "compassion," but it is more accurately described as the trembling of the heart in the face of suffering, followed by the urge to alleviate it. At Karuna Support, we believe that empathy is the feeling, but Karuna is the action. It is the transition from "I understand your struggle" to "I am here to help you move through it."

The Fierce Side of Kindness

Karuna isn’t soft or passive; it is a fierce commitment to the well-being of others. In a clinical context, this means having the courage to face complex challenges—anxiety, substance misuse, or social isolation—with a steady, non-judgmental presence that refuses to see a person as a "case" or a "diagnosis."

  • We get that your mental health isn't just "in your head." It’s in your gut, your routine, your environment, and your connections. We address all of it—the biological, the social, and the soulful.

  • While traditional therapy often happens in a static room, we apply the Buddhist practice of Mindfulness to the physical world. By moving our sessions into South Devon’s green spaces, we practice "Right Effort"—using the rhythm of walking and the grounding of nature to regulate the nervous system, making the psychological work of recovery feel more natural and less clinical.

  • Modern Person-Centred Care is the clinical evolution of Deep Listening. My RMN training provides the safety and the "data," but my Buddhist practice provides the presence. It allows me to sit with the "don’t know" mind—to truly listen to your unique experience without rushing to fit you into a pre-made clinical box.

About My Service: Specialist Mental Health Enabling

With over 24 years of experience across healthcare, education, and social support—including 4 years as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN)—I offer a unique, high-level approach to social inclusion.

I have now transitioned into a non-clinical role, bringing two decades of professional expertise to my work as a Specialist Enabler. My background as a teacher and support worker allows me to break down complex goals into manageable steps, while my nursing experience ensures I maintain a high degree of risk awareness and professional calm.

Why choose this service?

Deep Experience: I understand the journey from acute care back into the community. I am comfortable working with clients who have secondary care involvements or complex forensic histories.

Educational Approach: Drawing on 20 years of teaching and support work, I help clients develop "life skills"—from budgeting and social interaction to managing the anxiety of public spaces.

Professional Boundaries: I offer the reliability and ethics of a regulated professional within a flexible, community-focused support model.

Specialisms:

Social Reintegration: Specialising in helping those with severe anxiety or depression re-engage with the Teignbridge & Torbay community.

Section 117 Support: Providing high-quality, dependable aftercare that meets statutory requirements.

Neurodiversity Support: Leveraging my teaching background to support adults with ADHD/Autism and co-occurring mental health needs.

My Goal I don’t just offer a service; I offer a partnership. My mission is to help individuals transition from the role of "patient" back to the role of "active citizen," providing the clinical guardrails and compassionate action needed to reclaim a life of autonomy and purpose.
